Of course you do. Do you want to keep as much of your money as possible? Of course you do. Whether you say your boat is docked or moored in your slip, you want to find it in the same condition you left it, docked or moored securely without a dent. Do you want to overpay for your dock lines? Of course not. Dock lines come in many different types. Did you know that or did you just buy the first lines you saw or the same type your boating friends use? What type do you need? If you know, that's great. We can sell you American made line that meets your needs. If you don't know, we are here to help you and sell you the right dock lines at the guaranteed best price.
All of our rope is American made. We do this for two reasons - One, after 35 years
boating, we want you to have the strongest, longest lasting rope out there and two,
we want to keep Americans working.
When you are comparing the same size lines made from the same material for
different prices, less money may be buying you less strength or less durability. For a
small boat, used once in a while, minimum quality and price
may be all you need. For a large boat permanently docked in rough tidal waters, high
quality line is required. You owe it to yourself to look through Master Marine
Lines dock line selection and learn which lines are the best for your needs.
Nylon is the fiber of choice for dock lines. You should not be deceived by the word
nylon. All nylon is not created the same or capable of being turned into the same
quality marine line. It is possible to have 6 different 3 strand nylon lines that have
different strength and different durability. The same is true of double braid nylon
marine line. The quality of the fiber and how it is put together will give you dock lines
that last a short time or a long time. They can be easy to handle or tangle and get
hard quickly. Buyer beware - cheap is not necessarily good and it is not necessarily a
good way to keep your boat safely secured at your dock.
Docking tips
1. Go slow - just use enough power to control your boat considering wind, current and tide. Have your entire crew help and keep a sharp eye. They'll enjoy the experience.
2. Your dock lines should be about 2/3 the length of your boat. Your spring line(s) should be the length of your boat.
3. Practice - You want your boat in nice shape after you dock.
